Honest good working local company. The amount they quoted me on the phone was the price I paid after the service was completed.
Chimney and duct work in Jersey City, NJ
A brownstone flue is not a suburban flue with a different address on it. The shafts are narrow, the smoke chambers are rough, the stack usually serves more than one dwelling, and the roof is reached by a hatch. All of that changes how a visit is planned and how long the useful part of it takes.

The short answer
Surveys, brushwork, repairs and laundry ducts all over Jersey City, and on pre-war stock the camera and the flue map come well before any brushing.
What we find on these jobs
The finding that surprises people most here is the decorative fireplace that turns out to be connected. Plenty of these houses have hearths that nobody has lit in fifty years, sometimes with the flue quietly serving something else in the meantime, sometimes with the shaft blocked at a point nobody can see. Lighting one on the strength of the fact that it exists is how a room fills with smoke on a winter evening. Beyond that, the recurring conditions are the pre-war ones: unparged smoke chambers, joints opened by condensate from appliances far smaller than the shafts they vent into, and separations between flues that have not been visible since the house was built. Where the buildings have been converted into apartments, the flue map is the whole first half of the job.

Expert setup, high-powered vacuums, and absolutely no dust residue. Excellent work.
Water had been leaking around the chimney flashing, but the repair solved it completely. The crew sealed and reinforced the affected area with precision. Rain is no longer a concern. The workmanship looks strong and durable.
Questions from Jersey City
We want to start using a fireplace that has not been lit in decades.
Have it scanned before you light it, not after. A long-unused flue can be blocked, can have been connected to something else in the meantime, or can have joints that will not survive the heat. It is a short visit and it is the single most worthwhile one in this housing.
Is a brownstone flue different to sweep?
Yes, in a way that matters. The shafts are narrower and the tile is older, so the right rods and the right head matter more than the amount of force applied. Forcing an oversized brush down a narrow pre-war flue is how tiles get chipped.
The building is now four apartments. Who arranges the visit?
Whoever can get us to the roof and to the connections. In practice that is usually the owner or the managing agent. Tell us the arrangement when you ring and we will tell you what access the report you want is going to need.
Do you handle the roof hatch and the equipment yourselves?
Yes, provided the hatch opens and we know about it beforehand. What we cannot do is produce a key on the morning, which is why access is the first thing we ask about rather than the last.
